Bereavement Research Forum Conference 2008

TELLING UNTOLD STORIES:
GIVING VOICE TO THE DISENFRANCHISED IN BEREAVEMENT RESEARCH

20-21 November 2008

All Saints Conference Centre, St Albans

2008 CONFERENCE PROGRAMME

BRF conferences aim to increase awareness of the issues arising within the research process through the presentation of current or recent end-of-life or bereavement research studies.

As researchers and practitioners in a range of end-of-life and bereavement settings, this conference will help us explore:

*The value of story and narrative research as a way of giving a 'voice to suffering in a way that
          lies outside the domain of the biomedical voice
' (Hydén, 1997: 49*);

* The needs of particular groups whose bereavement is disenfranchised as expressed through
           their narratives in recent research studies;

* The way in which our own stories and narratives – as practitioners and researchers – are one
           of the ways in which 'we create and give meaning to our social reality' (Hydén, 1997: 50*)
